VMware Cloud Foundation Workload Domains: Design for Lifecycle and Isolation
Plan VMware Cloud Foundation workload domains around isolation, lifecycle management, capacity and operational ownership.
Core design principles
Use management and workload domains for different purposes. Keep platform services protected from tenant or application change windows and scale workload domains to their actual requirements.
Standardise before deployment: naming, IP pools, VLANs, certificate approach, image versions and host profiles reduce lifecycle risk later.
Respect lifecycle dependency order. Firmware, ESXi, vCenter, NSX and workload components must be assessed as a compatible set rather than patched independently.
Operational checklist
Define ownership, document the architecture and dependencies, protect privileged access, monitor the service, test recovery or rollback, and review the design after every material change.
